Greg Twombly, Franny Benedetto, P.J. O'Clair, Sherrie Donahue

The only word for this 2-hour video is excellent! It starts with Greg Twombly with a warmup and high/low. The music is energetic and fun, and so are the combos.

Then comes Franny with more high/low. I almost didn't recognize her the first time -- she has black hair! Her hair might have changed, but her fantastic teaching style and choreography have not. This is my favorite section. Lots of high-impact with fun moves.

Third is P.J. O'Clair. She teaches step. It starts off a little low-key, but after an hour of Greg and Franny, I need a break. She gradually increases the intensity, and pretty soon you're back in full gear. P.J.'s cueing is excellent, and she's easy to follow. She does mess up a few times, but it's not enough to frustrate you or anything.

Finally is Sherrie Donahue with street/hip-hop/ funk aerobics. I don't do this section, so I won't review it. But it does look fun for those who aren't as funk-impaired as I am. (Good music, too.) In this video, each instructor does 3 or 4 separate combos. You don't build one big routine from beginning to end. I found myself wanting to go back and "do it from the top," though, because I was having so much fun. But on the other hand, this could be a plus, because if there's a routine you don't like, you know it will end soon.

The only criticism I have of this video is that there is no cooldown or stretch. You will definitely need one! Because of that being left out, I have to rank it as an A- instead of an A.

Instructor comments: All the instructors are fun and very likable. Franny and P.J. are especially good at cueing and making the routines easy to follow (but never boring).

This workout contains three segments plus a warmup and cooldown, for a total length of 2 hours.

The first workout is high/low. Calvin teaches a very dancy routine first and then Roberto teaches a slightly dancy but more athletic routine. Then the two are combined. I found Calvin's part dancier than what I can handle, so I got frustrated.

Next is Planet Step with Roberto. I really like this, and I'm keeping this tape solely for this section. I think Roberto is better at putting together step routines than high/low, judging from this tape and the other CIA tape that he's on. This section is a lot of fun, and there are power moves that you can do or not do depending on how you're feeling that day. I plan to do this 30-minute segment in conjunction with strength work or another short cardio workout.

Finally, there's Bust A Move, which is a funk workout by Calvin. This is way out of my league, so I didn't even try it. Calvin is fascinating to watch, though.

Funk enthusiasts will probably rate this tape an A or A+, but for someone like me who can handle a little bit of dance, but is extremely funk-impaired, you probably won't like it (except for Roberto's Planet Step).

The question facing any viewer of the Japanese CG feature Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is: do you have to know the games on which it's based in order to understand the film? But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in the Final Fantasy world will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud's former general, Sephiroth), FFVII opens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension, Final Fantasy VII will definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. The blend of personal drama, courtroom action, sexual indiscretion, family dynamics, and political scandal is perfectly balanced and, as in real life, everything is complexly interwoven. The most compelling thing about the series is Margulies herself: she is completely believable as Alicia Florrick--everything she feels and thinks comes across as totally real to viewers, sometimes without even one word of dialogue, and viewers can't help but relate to everything she's going through and wonder what they might do in a similar situation. Viewers struggle right along with Alicia as she oscillates between self-confidence and self-doubt, resolve and vulnerability, hatred for her husband's infidelity and an inexplicable resilient love for him, even in the face of her renewed attraction to her former law school classmate and now-boss Will (Josh Charles). Viewers share in her determination to remain strong and somehow balance the demands of work and family. Panjabi is commanding in her breakout role as Kalinda, an extremely pragmatic investigator who regularly defies convention and will go to almost any length to get the information she needs, and every interaction between Alicia and Kalinda is simply electric. Christine Baranski is also stellar in her role as Diane Lockhart, a firm partner who sees Alicia both as someone to mentor and as a personal threat. The Killing Joke, one of my favorite Batman stories ever, stirred a bit of controversy because the story involves the Joker brutally, pointlessly shooting Commissioner Gordon's daughter in the spine.
