Michael Powell lays bare the cinema's dark voyeuristic underside in this disturbing 1960 psychodrama thriller. Handsome young Carl Boehm is Mark Lewis, a shy, socially clumsy young man shaped by the psychic scars of an emotionally abusive parent, in this case a psychologist father (Michael Powell in a perverse cameo) who subjected his son to nightmarish experiments in fear and recorded every interaction with a movie camera. Now Mark continues his father's work, sadistically killing young women with a phallic-like blade attached to his movie camera and filming their final, terrified moments for his definitive documentary on fear. Set in contemporary London, which Powell evokes in a lush, colorful seediness, this film presents Mark as much victim as villain and implicates the audience in his scopophilic activities as we become the spectators to his snuff film screenings. Comparisons to Hitchcock's Psycho, released the same year, are inevitable. Powell's film was reviled upon release, and it practically destroyed his career, ironic in light of the acclaim and success that greeted Psycho, but Powell's picture hit a little too close to home with its urban setting, full color photography, documentary techniques, and especially its uneasy connections between sex, violence, and the cinema. We can thank Martin Scorsese for sponsoring its 1979 rerelease, which presented the complete, uncut version to appreciative American audiences for the first time. As go the gags, so goes Family Guy, and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. Army Men: Air Tactics continues 3DO's popular game franchise about the war between the heroic Sarge of the Green army men and the evil Plastro of the Tan. Players take command of a Green plastic helicopter in a series of combat missions, blasting Tan emplacements and airlifting Green soldiers to and from the frontlines. All the action takes place on the traditional battlefields of army men, from the burning wastes of the sandbox to steamy gardens to--when Mom's not looking--indoor locations such as the bathroom. In fact, the game lets you indulge all the pubescent army-man whims that parents warn against: the Flamethrower Guy spouts real flames and reduces enemy soldiers to puddles of plastic, and environmental hazards such as Bunsen burners and backyard grills can end any plastic warrior's career. Your chopper can even be equipped with the bane of many a real-life army man: fireworks. Launching a few bottle rockets into a Tan tank convoy is pure pyromaniacal bliss. Missions are varied to keep things interesting, and the game actually contains a plot to move the action along. Seems that Plastro has teamed up with a mad scientist from the Gray army and is working on creating a new breed of soldiers to conquer the world. The hokey plot just doesn't seem that bad, given the game's setting. In fact, you'll come to care for the soldiers entrusted to you and may even feel a little pang of regret whenever a stranded Bazooka Guy gets blasted because you weren't quick enough with an evac. Okay, maybe not, but Army Men: Air Tactics is a worthy addition to the Army Men franchise and is sure to put a smile on the face of anybody who's played with these guys.

The heroic Green Army is back! And this time they're defending the skies from the evil Tan Army with a newly formed helicopter battalion. Meet Captain William Blade, the finest Air Cavalry flyer ever to take to the skies. He's tough, he's smart, and he's fearless. Blade's got the reputation for having nerves of steel and the expertise to take on a brigade of the enemy. His name says it all, for any enemy that gets in his way is going to be cut down.
